Higher education

368,954 people started an undergraduate programme in Chile in 2026. Three kinds of institution take them in, and each one is read over twenty years, 2007–2026: who grew, who fell, who opened and who closed, and what they teach.

The 212 programmes they teach → A type of institution says «institute»; these say nursing, logistics and primary teaching.

What each one researches: the knowledge network → The projects ANID awarded them, the subjects they specialise in and who researches something similar.

The three types are the register's own (Mineduc, SIES), and each institution is counted under the type it has today, with an absorbed institution's history going with the one that absorbed it. Without that the border between CFTs and institutes moves — CFT La Araucana was absorbed by IP La Araucana in 2015, and CFT INACAP was absorbed by IP INACAP in 2026 — and read apart it would look like a collapse in one and a boom in the other. An institution's region is its campus, not where its students are from, and a first-year count is entries, not enrolment. The checks are here.
