Ports and border crossings

Where what Chile trades physically leaves and lands. In January–July 2026, 81 seaports, airports and border crossings moved goods, but five of them — Puerto Angamos, San Antonio, Caleta Coloso, Aeropuerto A.M. Benitez and Valparaíso — loaded 55% of all exports. The port is not the customs office: the Aduana de Antofagasta, for one, processes what is loaded at Coloso, Angamos, Mejillones and seven private terminals.

Codes a declaration can carry as its port that are not a place: no port at all (mostly exports of services), stores for foreign ships and aircraft, and «other Chilean ports». They have figures and are not drawn.

How it is measured

Where the figures come from
Every export and import declaration the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas processed since January 2025, added up as Aduanas publishes them in its open databases. Nothing is estimated. They are amounts of trade, not PuroChile indicators, and they are never divided by census figures.
FOB and CIF
Exports are valued FOB («free on board»): what the goods are worth loaded on the ship, plane or truck that takes them out of Chile. Imports are valued CIF («cost, insurance and freight»): what they are worth on arrival in Chile, with insurance and freight paid. That is how Aduanas publishes them. So «exports less imports» is not the Central Bank's trade balance, which values imports without insurance or freight.
Which months
The figures at the top add up January–July 2026: the months of this year both databases already carry, against the same months of 2025. Aduanas replaces the running year's database every month, so this year's months can still be corrected. «s/d» on a chart is a month the database does not carry — not a month without trade.
Changes
A change is shown only where the same months of the year before added up to at least US$ 1.0 million.
Port and customs office
The port is where the cargo physically passes: loaded for an export, unloaded for an import. The customs office is the branch of the Service that processes the declaration. They are not always the same place: the Aduana de Antofagasta processes what is loaded at Mejillones.
What is not here
Customs agents: every declaration names the agent who filed it, but Aduanas's open databases leave that field out, and PuroChile does not estimate it.
Which list
The ports are those of Anexo 51-11 of the Compendio de Normas Aduaneras. Aduanas's code spreadsheet lacks the terminals coded 817 to 830 — several of the largest copper loaders among them — and calls 993 «Cap. Huachipato», which the Anexo gives to the Aeródromo El Loa; the declarations carrying that code travel by air, so the Anexo governs here.
One code, two places
Anexo 51-11 gives code 824 to two places: the Terminal Graneles del Norte and the Paso Butamallín, where the Gasoducto del Pacífico crosses from Argentina. What arrives by pipeline under that code is the pass; what arrives by sea, the terminal.
Where each one is
Aduanas publishes no location: PuroChile places a port in its comuna, not on its quay, with a table checked by hand; a doubtful one is left with no comuna, with its figures and no place on the ruler.
It adds up to Chile
What crosses every port adds up, to the cent, to what Chile exported and imported, and that is checked. An export also declares its gross weight; the imports database does not, so a port's tonnage is only what was loaded.
What has a page
A port has a page if it moved at least US$ 1.0 million over the months the databases cover; the rest are, with their figures, in this page's tables.
